North Branch Greenway Project - Clinton River

In 2019, SEMCOG awarded Macomb County Planning and Economic Development with a grant to develop a vision for a Greenway along the North Branch of the Clinton River.

The Steering Committee includes The Clinton River Watershed Council, Six Rivers Land Conservancy, SEMCOG, Huron Clinton Metropark Authority, Macomb County, Macomb Township, Clinton Township, Ray Township and Lenox Township.

The primary long-term goals of the project are:

  1.  To reduce the impact of future flooding within North Branch of the Clinton River.
  2.  To work strategically to protect the riparian corridor.
  3.  Establish a multi-modal linear recreational corridor along, or near, the North Branch of the Clinton River from Clinton Township's Budd Park to the Macomb Orchard Trail.

The proposed North Branch Greenway follows the North Branch of the Clinton River from the confluence with the Main Branch of the Clinton River in Clinton Township, north through Macomb, Ray and Armada Townships and the East Branch Coon Creek in Lenox Township.

The concept for a greenway evolved after significant flooding events in the county as well as a growing interest in conservation and recreation.
