Complete Distribution System Materials Inventory (CDSMI)

On October 15, 2024, Macomb Township submitted to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, & Energy (EGLE), as well as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), our complete water system service line material list.

The goal of the CDSMI is to determine what materials were used on all water service lines in communities.  The ultimate goal is to get lead out of the system.  MACOMB TOWNSHIP HAS NO LEAD SERVICE LINES IN OUR SYSTEM.

Per CDSMI guidelines, any recordkeeping prior to 1989 is deemed inaccurate due to lead being used in the system until that point, and all water service line materials are deemed "unknown" until the municipality can prove otherwise.  Following EGLE requirements, Macomb Township performed a service line field verification project in 2024, where 351 service lines installed prior to 1989 were dug up to verify the materials used for the service line.

Water services were field verified in three locations:

  • Between the water main and the curb shutoff box,
  • Between the curb shutoff box and the home,
  • Inside the home before the meter.

All 351 water services came back with copper as the material used, which matched all of our records.  Based on our findings, and the fact that all of the findings matched our records, the state is comfortable that our records are accurate in proving we have no lead service lines in our Township.

EGLE requires that the entire service line material list be available for public viewing.
